DEKRA Product Testing Laboratory

Dekra sought Berkowsky and Associates, Inc. (BAI) to provide interior renovations that would expand their laboratory testing services. Dekra’s existing reception and conferencing spaces are now a reimagined entryway, ARC and Dark Laboratory, and two Burning Velocity Labs.

The new entry showcases the Dekra sign in polished alumnium against the Dekra-branded green accent wall.

Beyond the entryway is the ARC Lab, known for the Accelerating Rate Calorimeter testing equipment in the space. The lab is designed to contain small explosions and accelerants with custom walk-in fume hoods. Installing interchangable gas cylinders over piped house gas allows users to customize the gas needed for testing. The existing constant volume HVAC in the space was converted to variable speed actuated volume to better respond to the varying uses within the lab. A gas detection system is also installed for safety monitoring.

Adjacent to the ARC Lab is the Dark Lab which allows testing for light-sensitive particles and enzymes. While both labs were finished with new floors, casework, and utilities, this lab also has remote switch blackout shades installed within a track to allow total darkness in the lab when needed.

The renovation is complete with two burning velocity rooms and a prep space with mobile casework to allow multiple projects to happen concurrently for Dekra’s varied client base and testing needs.
